7 Festivals You Need To Go To This Summer | EGO

It still might only be January but that doesn’t mean we can’t get excited for summer already, are we right? We’re dreaming of those sunny days (cocktail in hand), hanging with friends and listening to some amaze music at some of our fave festivals. Here's a quick roundup of the ones you need to be at this Summer...

 

1. Glastonbury

Where is it?

Somerset, UK.

 

When is it?

21st - 25th June.

 

What is it?

Perhaps one of the most well known festivals on earth, Glastonbury is a five day event offering a killer lineup of all things performance. Alongside some incredible music, the festival also offers an alternate lineup of comedy, theatre, dance and speakers from all walks of life. The festival has been around since the 70’s and it’s fair to say it’s secured it’s place as one of the best events of all time.

 

Who’s playing?

So far confirmed for 2017 are Radiohead with strong rumours for Ed Sheeran, Lady Gaga, Guns n Roses, Diana Ross and Alt J, although these are just rumors. However judging from past lineups that have included Beyonce, Adele, Kayne West, Oasis, David Bowie and Arctic Monkeys; you know it’s going to be a big one.



2. Coachella

Where is it?

California, US.

 

When is it?

14th - 16th April and 21st - 23rd April.

 

What is it?

Coachella in a way is like the American version of Glastonbury. There tends to be quite a few similar acts playing except Coachella has more sun and less mud. This is the one you’ll see plastered all over Instagram, both weekends, with all your fave celebs attending. We sooo wish we were going.

 

Who’s playing?

The headliners over the weekend are Radiohead, Beyonce and Kendrick Lamar. However there’s also some pretty major acts lower down on the bill including The XX, Bon Iver, DJ Snake, Bastille, Lorde, New Order, Four Tet, Bonobo, Mac DeMarco, DJ Khaled and many more. There’s something for every music taste here.



3. Bestival 

Bestival Music Festival

 

Where is it?

Dorset, UK.

 

When is it?

7th - 10th September.

 

What is it?

A four day music festival that has been going since 2004. Bestival has grown rapidly over recent years and won countless awards. A little different to usual festivals, Bestival adopts a theme each year and encourages attendees to dress up to match the theme. Previous ones have included Fantasy, Wildlife, Desert Island Disco, Summer of Love and Out of Space.

 

Who’s playing?

No one has been confirmed yet, but Bestival usually likes to mix up their headlines between old and new. Previous headliners have included Duran Duran, Missy Elliot, Outkast, Foals, Chic, Fatboy Slim, Snoop Dogg, Elton John, The Cure and Tame Impala. There’s usually a good mix of genres too so you can mix it up a little.



4. Secret Garden Party

Where is it?

Cambridgeshire, UK.

 

When is it?

20th - 23rd July.

 

What is it?

A bit like Bestival, Secret Garden Party (or SGP) likes to have a theme too. This year’s theme is Fame and previous ones have included The Gardener's Guide To The Galaxy, Childish Things, Goodbye Yellowbrick Road and Superstition.

 

Who’s playing?

So far announced are Metronomy, Toots & The Maytals, Honne, Jagwar Ma, Akala, Ray Blk and Jermey Loops. Previous lineups have included Caribou, Fat Freddy’s Drop, Air, Primal Scream, Clean Bandit and Maya Jane Coles. It’s a bit of an alternative one but features some amazing acts.



5. Tomorrowland

Where is it?

Boom, Belgium.

 

When is it?

21st - 30th July.

 

What is it?

Arguably one of Europe’s biggest electronic music festivals, Tomorrowland has now broadened itself to ‘TomorrowWorld’ which includes editions of the festival in the USA and Brazil due to growing popularity and demand.

 

Who’s playing?

Confirmed for 2017 are Carl Cox, Eric Prydz, Axwell, Paul Van Dyk, Solomun, Afrojack, Eats Everything, Lost Frequencies, Martin Garrix, Yellow Claw and many more. It’s a big one if you’re into dance music.



6. Outlook / Dimensions

Outlook and Dimensions Festival Pula Croatia Sunset Beach Party

Where is it?

Pula, Croatia.

 

When is it?

Dimensions is 30th August - 3rd September and Outlook is 6th - 10th September.

 

What is it?

Based in an old fort in an island just off the coast of Pula, Outlook and Dimensions are two separate festivals run by the same owners and held in the same location. The festivals run back to back and options are available to stay for the whole two week duration. Whilst some of the music crosses over, Outlook caters more towards dub, reggae, garage and grime tastes whereas Dimensions is suited for those who love techno, electronic, disco and funk and soul. Did we mention there’s a beach and some killer boat parties? Oh, and the opening night is held in a Roman Amphitheatre. Pretty cool huh.

 

Who’s playing?

Both lineups are yet to be released. However past headliners for Outlook have included Lauryn Hill, Stormzy, Goldie, Congo Natty, Run the Jewels, Damian Marley and Busta Rhymes. Dimensions has hosted some pretty major acts too including Massive Attack, Moodymann, George Clinton, Parliament/Funkadelic and Mount Kimbie.

 

7. Dekmantel 

Dekmantel Music Festival Amsterdam Camp Bos

 

Where is it?

Amsterdam, Netherlands.

 

When is it?

2nd - 6th August.

 

What is it?

Held in and around Amsterdam, Dekmantel mixes up its structure by offering a separate day and night festival. The day festival (12pm - 11pm) and the camping is based in a park on the outskirts of the city, whereas the night festival (11pm - 8am) is held in various clubs in the city centre. It’s primarily techno and electronic based but does offer elements of dance, funk and disco.

 

Who’s playing?

So far confirmed are Floating Points, Ben UFO, Nina Kraviz, Jon Hopkins, Marcel Dettmann, Robert Hood, Rødhåd, Motor City Drum Ensemble and Jeff Mills with many more still to be released.
