Meet Ella Jazz, a super cool artist and actress who loves to travel the world whilst honing her crafts. Get to know a bit more about what inspires her and check out her seriously inspiring works of art…
So tell us all about what you do…
I'm an actress and an artist. I was born in Madrid and have been leaving in between London, Madrid, Paris, South of France and Los Angeles. I love travelling and all the things you experience and learn when you’re out of your comfort zone.
What do you love most about what you do?
I like being able to express myself in different ways.
How did you get into it acting an being an artist?
I've been always fascinated about cinema. From since I can remember I’ve watch movies everyday. When I was about 10 years old, I started working in TV and cinema for a while and loved it, so I continued to study it and went to university. When I moved to London I started to feel the need to go back to acting. I met artist Viktor Vauthier and we became a team. Since then we’ve supported each other in what we do and I can say he has had a big impact on my development as an artist.
With collages, it started as an urge to express myself in a different way other than the usual singing, dancing, playing other characters and interviewing everyone around the house including my cat and dogs.
It's funny because my "calm" moments as a child would be going through old magazines, books and drawings and with my pair of scissors just cutting and playing, which I keep at nowadays.
What’s been the highlight of your career so far?
My first time on a cinema set when I was little girl.
Who inspires you?
The people I surround myself with are the ones who inspire me the most. I also have other artists and people that I admire but there are so many I can’t name them all! Nature also inspires me, always. I keep my eyes open to everything that surrounds me and never stop being curious.
How would you describe your own style?
If you were a shoe, what type would you be?
Ha, ha! At this moment in my life I'm pretty sure I would be a turquoise 70's platform heel.
Describe yourself in 3 words:
What are your plans for the future?
To keep on learning, enjoying life and working hard for what I love, and even if I see myself based in LA in the future, I will never stop travelling. But right now, all we have is the present. Experiences show me all the time how important is to be in the moment and to be grateful.
What’s on your playlist?
I couldn't live without music! I like every genre; Jazz, soul, hip hop, disco, reggae, rock, cumbia...Some of my favorites are Boris Vian, Ella Fitzgerald, Sam Cooke and Nina Simone. However I could never fit all the ones that I admire and love into justone playlist.
What’s been your favourite piece of work to date?
My piece "Deshabillez moi" (Undress me!). It's very special to me. I took the photo of the palm trees whilst walking in LA and when I made the collage I had a very special energy running through my blood. I remember the moment like if it was 5 minutes ago, I even remember how I was sitting when I did it.
What would you want your legacy to be?
I would like to be remembered as someone who was loving and strong, honest and fun, who people loved being around.
What’s the reason behind the lips often featured in your artwork?
The reason behind them is to let people play with their imagination when they see my collages. I see abstract faces everywhere. Lips are sexy and romantic. I kept playing with them and they became my signature.
