Behind The Brand: Marketing Executive | EGO

Want to know a bit more about working for EGO? We sat down with our Marketing Exec Emma to talk about how she got her role, her progression within the company and any advice she has for those wanting to pursue a career in marketing.

1. What is your role here at EGO?

My role at EGO is Marketing Executive!

2. You started as a customer care assistant, how did you progress to Marketing Exec?

I'd originally started EGO within customer service with no direct experience within marketing and no idea as to what was to come. Fast forward 1 year later and I'd progressed from this to a Marketing assistant and then finally as a Marketing exec. By no means did I fully teach myself, as I learnt basics of Marketing within uni and whilst blogging part-time and then throughout this job role. It's a daily learning curve where I sometimes do adapt and teach myself through being methodical, but that's what makes it even more enjoyable!

3. What does a typical day look like for you?

I know this sounds generic and what everyone says, but each day seriously is different. From planning promotional activity/homepage/email content/ running reports and much, much more.

When I'm not at work I also spending a lot of time on my personal blog, Sarcasm and Style, it's my favourite way to unwind after a long day.

4. What’s your favourite part of the job?

It'd have to be the creativity that comes along with it. And seeing your work come to life.

5. What’s been your best memory since starting the job?

Seeing EGO reach their 1st birthday, and helping plan an amazing party for it.

6. What are you looking forward to in the future?

Learning more for personal and professional development, and helping EGO be the best shoe brand ever, obviously.

7. What marketing trends have you seen develop since starting?

The rise of content/social media marketing. Although these were present when I started, the power of both has grown ridiculously within marketing over the past year. Bloggers charging £1K or more for an Instagram shot really shows the power of social media, I think I need to become insta-famous asap!

8. What advice would you give to those wanting to start a career in marketing?

Work hard, show passion and continue to follow your inner drive. That sounds ridiculously cheesy but sadly it's true, as without it I wouldn't of pushed to where I am now within 1 year. Go get em'. Plus experience is key.

9. If you could give a piece of advice to someone with an interview for a fashion brand, what would it be?

Be yourself, show your creativity and own your talents. Something I have to force myself to do, daily. After all you never know, you could be the next best thing for that brand!

10. What is one of the bad aspects of your job?

In honesty, nothing. I love the daily challenges, fast-paced environment and even working extra at night. It also helps that the managers, owners and everyone I work with are pretty amazing too.
