The Mid Layer Manifesto

Every iconic fit needs a centrepiece, and the mid layer is exactly that. It’s the transitional hero that turns a basic base into a whole moment. Whether it’s a shrunken vest/cami top layered under an off-the-shoulder top to embody the gorpcore aesthetic, or a zip-up tracksuit under a bomber jacket (the perfect airport outfit BTW), your mid layer sets the tone when it comes to layering clothes. It’s the texture that peeks through, the contrast that actually does bits for the fit, and the easiest way to manipulate your silhouette without losing the plot.

The Final Layer

If you’re stopping at the clothes, you’re missing the point. Layering clothes is the base, but the accessories are the underdog that low-key carries the fit. You’d be doing your fit dirty if you skipped them. All it takes is a scarf or a hat to complete your winter ensemble. Or a pair of tights under the mini skirt to add depth, maybe some socks peaking out of some knee-high boots to give the Y2K aesthetic or some jewellery to actually complete the look. Everyone can agree that these details are a hack that takes a look from a 6 to a 10.
